Welcome to The Shockey Brigade
Welcome to The Shockey Brigade. My name is Derek.
You may be wondering, why “The Shockey Brigade”? Well, the motivation behind this whole endeavor is basically why not “The Shockey Brigade”. But that doesn’t really get us anywhere, so I’ll start at the beginning.
We are three guys who like sports. In college, all we really did was sit around our apartment and talk about sports. The only arguments we ever had were about sports. It was once suggested that we do a radio show about sports, but when we found out we’d need to earn our stripes by reporting on kind of lame sports, we bailed. Considering our terms were “either let us do what we want or we won’t do anything at all”, and our collective experience in radio was, well, none, it just didn’t seem worth it.
Since then, we’ve continued to really like sports (hooray!), but a few things have changed since college: we all get the chance to go to more sporting events than in the past; instead of talking about sports in our apartment, we waste the day at our respective jobs talking about sports on gchat; and we obsess over fantasy baseball. We like that a lot.
So one day my fellow contributor Jose wrote us all on gchat to propose we start this blog. 438 days later, and after months of negotiating the title, posting rights and bonus clauses, here it is.
That brings us to the title of this weblog. Several of us have season tickets to the New York Football Giants (complicated issue - I’m sure it will be discussed shortly). During one of the more memorable tailgates (as in, I actually remember it), we decreed for all who cared that three Jeremy Shockey New York Football Giants jerseys, be it on their own or amongst a larger group, constituted an official “Shockey Brigade”, and would be celebrated as such. Whether or not Jeremy Shockey will be traded away from the Giants (and ripped from our hearts) is a matter of future discussion. But now and forever, the Shockey Brigade pronouncement will be adhered to.
And thus I present to you The Shockey Brigade… weblog. Stop by from time to time to check out our intriguing or humorous perspectives on sports. Enjoy our weekly gchat highlight post, which will provide snippets of the good, the bad, and the stupid from our daily chats (subject to whether we actually do this or not).
